A HOUSE THROUGH TIMES

After earlier extensive structural interventions significantly changed the appearance of the house towards Nussdorfer Straße, for example by inserting a large window display or repositioning the entrances - the current conversion, on the other hand, intends to preserve the historical building structure and qualitatively expand it in terms of monument protection.

The construction task includes a complete revitalization of a glacis Biedermeier house worthy of conservation. The focus here is on protecting the historic walls and "pawlatsche" walkways and preserving the existing greenery in the hidden inner courtyard.

The associated Biedermeier forms of living should also be preserved in their character.

After dismantling the glass display in the left part of the building, the original facade will be largely restored. The entire planning and implementation is carried out by the architectural officeBFA X KLK.

history of the house

The Biedermeier residential building with main and courtyard wing and side wings was built around a newly created inner courtyard in 1822, incorporating the foundations of the previous buildings.
The furnishing of the living rooms with casement windows and double external doors, many of which are still preserved, was probably only added later in the second hal
f of the 19th century.
There were still four windows on the ground floor of the main wing south of the entrance until 1908, when the shop of linen dealer Wilhelmine Gams was expanded and a corresponding portal with displays was approved.

The main characteristic of Biedermeier architecture is the elegant but rather simple style, which was ultimately a variant of classicism. This style shaped the monumental buildings of this time, the Biedermeier the bourgeois residential area. In the foreground of the Biedermeier era was not thinking or acting, but experiencing and creating from nature.
